Products in transit
The border controls authorized for the transit of plant and animal products and sub-products and agricultural and livestock materials are regulated by Decree No. 53, January 14, 2007.
These products must be covered by a plant health or animal health certificate depending on the case, granted by the competent authority of the country of origin, and must comply with all the general and specific plant and animal health standards that Chile has issued for products in transit.
Merchandise in transit may only enter Chilean territory by authorized air, maritime and land ports, and must also comply with Chilean conditions of transport and established maximum lengths of stay.
The objective is to prevent the introduction of quarantine pests that are not present in Chile or of those that are under official control and to stop the introduction of transmissible animal diseases.
This type of merchandise is subject to animal health inspection, wither by documents or physically, according to the risk category that is established for the products.
